OpenRail Designer Help

Create Rails

The Create Rail ( ) tool helps to create rails, different rail geometry and models.

You can access this dialog from the following:

Ribbon: OpenRail Modeling Workflow > Rail > Rails > Rail and Sleepers

Create Rail command can be used to create;
  • Inside Edge of a rail (3D linestring)
  • Top center of a rail (3D linestring)
  • 3D Rail Mesh (Optional)

Left and right rail geometry follows horizontal, vertical and cant alignments. Tool can also use predefined Track Widening and Tack Bending tables.

When Create Rail Mesh option is selected tool uses an ITL based template to create 3D mesh representation of the rails. Origin point of the selected template represents the Top-Center rail elevation. In the below example you can see the origin point of such a template.

Selected template is used to create Left Rail. Right Rail is created by mirroring this template.

Notes:
  • When you select cant, a single cant is selected. Using the reset option selects all the cants assigned to the geometry.
  • When tracking along an alignment, use F11 to include active Cant, Speed and Radius reading in Analyze Point.
